Elizabethan Revised

Description

My Elizabethan underpinnings, revised. I finally finished the "real" underpinnings, in proper fabric. The chemise didn't fit on my dress form, so it's not here, but I have one! Both are made of cotton twill. The corset is boned with quick ties and has a wood busk down the center front. I changed it from my original, it's a little shorter in the front, and it's smaller, almost too small, but fits fine. There is machine embroidery between bones.

The farthingale, much improved, can, I think, support weight just fine. It is made of twill, by way of a lot of geometry. I looked at patterns in Hunnisset's book as well as Janet Arnold, but decided to just use geometry instead, and it works great. The hoops are plastic tubing from the hardware store, in which I shoved 12 gauge galvanized wire. The wire is for strength, the tubing is just nice and smooth. I got the idea for the tubing from [link] but it doesn't work well alone on a wheel farthingale. It's too floppy, [link]

The farthingale is pretty big, but for my purposes, the bigger the better.

Anyways, next will come the petticoat.

Can you tell me the diameter of the outer ring? :) It looks great and a good inspiration for my own wheel farthingale!
